Brasher’s Northwest Dealer Bags Trophy

Bob Roessel of Portland RV Wholesale, a frequent buyer at Brasher’s Northwest Auto Auction, had the opportunity to visit The Heartland Ranch in Missouri this year to do some serious hunting. The trip, which was won by a friend during Brasher’s Northwest’s Anniversary Sale in June, was the trip of a lifetime for Bob, a serious sportsman. Heartland Wildlife RanchDuring the three day trip to the Ranch, Bob stayed in the Ranch’s 26 room guest lodge with first class amenities and amazing views.

On the second day, Bob got what he came for: An 800 lb. bull elk! The elk had a green score of 512.

The ranch cut and wrapped the meat, and Bob took home 80 lbs. of it to share with the family, donating the remaining 400 lb. to a local charity.

After an exhausting day on the hunt, Bob was able to spend his final day relaxing and enjoying the views of the ranch. “I very much enjoyed myself and would recommend this trip to anyone who doesn’t often get to hunt.”

Tory Miran Returns to Brasher’s Idaho Auto Auction

January 18th, 2010

Source: servnetauctions.com

Brasher’s Idaho Auto Auction has announced that industry veteran Tory Miran has joined the auction staff as head of national account sales.

“We’re thrilled to welcome Tory back ‘home’ to the Idaho Auto Auction,” said auction owner and general manager Doug Brasher, noting that Miran spent ten years at the Idaho Auto Auction prior to the Brashers’ ownership of the facility, from 1997 to 2007.

“Tory helped build the Idaho Auto Auction into a top-notch facility, and developed strong relationships that our auction continues to enjoy today. We’re excited to work with him as we continue growing our customer base and leading the market as an auction offering superior service and superior results,” said Brasher.

Miran has worked in the auction industry since 1996, when he joined Auction Finance Group, located in Miami, Florida, as the company’s representative in the Northwest Region. Approximately a year later, he went to work for Idaho Auto Auction where he spent the next ten years, serving initially as the fleet/lease manager. In 2001 he was named Assistant General Manager, and in 2003 he was promoted to General Manager. In 2008 he moved to the nation’s heartland to work with ServNet’s Kansas City Independent Auto Auction as its general manager.

UPDATE: Brasher’s Desk to Ironman Challenge

January 15th, 2010

It’s time to make known where your allegiance lies (anonymously of course). Will you align yourself with Team Hammer, Bullet, benny, or Other?

For a description of the challenge and a bio of the contenders click here. Be sure to read below to get a training update.

Brasher's Desk to Ironman Voting Survey

Team Hammer

  • Matt BrasherBrasher’s Idaho
  • YTD Training Miles
    • Swim .1 mi
    • Bike 98.7 mi
    • Run 5.1 mi
  • How’s the training?: “Training is going well.  It’s a lot more time than I anticipated, so balancing work, family time and training has been a challenge.  It has forced me to be a lot more organized with my time.  I’m still a little tentative running on my ankle after the surgery (swimming and biking has been great), but I am getting to the comfort level that I need to be at.  I am excited about the race.  Again, the running part has me a little concerned, but I am confident that the swim and bike portions will go well.  Why should you vote for me?  I would only vote for me if I was a gambling man that liked to play the odds, and I am, so vote for me.”

Team benny

  • Ben BrasherBrasher’s Auto Auctions
  • YTD Training Miles
    • Swim 2.48 mi
    • Bike 82 mi
    • Run 19.6 mi
  • How’s the training?: ”January 1st marked four months from race day and that was the date I was going to start following a more disciplined training schedule. I’m a little off track so far but surprisingly not too worried. I have some nervous energy, but mostly I’m just excited for race-day. I still have plenty of work to do, but I’m fairly confident it will all work out. My goal has been to focus more on the bike and I’ve done OK on an indoor trainer, but I need to get out for some longer rides. If you vote for me I will make all of your wildest dreams come true.”

Team Bullet

Swim lessons: $39
Triathlon training book: $55
Blaming the Brasher Boys for all this Insanity: Priceless

“I eased up significantly on my training in the last quarter of 2009 however in the middle of December I hit the training pretty hard.  I am following a little different training program than I am used to.  Normally my training consists of running or biking as hard as I can all the time which would leave me tired and worn out every day.  I am now monitoring my heart rate (due to the distance of this triathlon) which has slowed me down a little, however it has allowed me to go further in training without leaving myself so tired and exhausted.  I am feeling pretty good about where I am in my training program as far as the bike and run however the swim still has me concerned. Like I have always said I swim like a rock!
I heard a quote once which explains why you should pick the old guy to win: “you have to go into the jungle, find the lion, & spit in his face…then shoot him (hence the name Bullet).  You guys are not good enough to win on talent alone…you have to WANT IT”.  Someone from our group might beat me but they are going to have to bleed to do it!!!!!!! So vote for me because I AM your wildest dream!”

Plus-Sized ADESA, Auction Pipeline Cast Bigger Net

January 11th, 2010

Source: AutoNews.com

ADESA Inc. and Auction Pipeline Inc. are combining their online resources to give dealers access to more vehicles and more information.

Last month the two companies kicked off the initiative, called Plus, by combining their vehicles listed for sale in a single database, says Warren Byrd, executive vice president of corporate development at ADESA.

Byrd says the combined listing creates a bigger pool of inventory that dealers can access in one online channel. It also gives sellers’ vehicles wider exposure in one place. The combined listing is expected to list about 70,000 vehicles.

AuctionPipeline + Adesa = PLUS
“ADESA and Auction Pipeline have come together to work in a cooperative effort and spirit for our mutual best interest, but more importantly for the best interest of our customers,” Byrd says. “It makes it easier for dealers to see the inventory in one place and buy that car.”

When dealers visit an auction site that uses auctionpipeline.com or adesa.com, they see vehicles listed for sale at ADESA’s 47 U.S. auction sites and 27 independently owned auction houses that use AuctionPipeline. Registered dealers who log onto either site can search for vehicles by make and model.

ADESA’s Byrd says his company and Auction Pipeline will join forces on other initiatives this year. He says the two companies will create a combined market report that will give dealers information about vehicle selling prices.

Also this year, dealers who log onto either ADESA’s LiveBlock or Auction Pipeline’s Pipeline Simulcast channels — both of which enable dealers to participate in physical sales remotely through the Internet — will have access to vehicles offered on both sites.

Brasher’s Cascade to Change Name

December 23rd, 2009

After the first of the year, the auction will become Brasher’s Portland Auto Auction. Brasher’s management points out that the reason for the change lies in geographical recognition.

“Representatives of our auction frequently find themselves in front of bank, finance and fleet accounts across the nation that don’t know where ‘Cascade’ is,” explains Jerry Hinton, the auction’s general manager. “When we tell them we are from Brasher’s Portland Auto Auction, the guesswork is removed and our customers will know where to find us without further explanation.”
Brasher's Portland Auto Auction
The name and logo change have been in the works for about five months and had to be approved by the National Auto Auction Association. With this completed, Brasher’s has begun the transition that will take full effect on January 1.

Brasher’s Portland Auto Auction will celebrate its renaming with an auction event on January 21 featuring over 1200 vehicles with key consignment from VW Credit and Audi Financial Services. At this event, Brasher’s will be giving out apparel with the new auction name and logo along with traditional food and prizes that accompany these types of Brasher’s party-sale events.

The auction was launched by the Brasher family in 1993 in Lake Oswego, a Portland suburb. Operating in a renovated truck facility with four lanes, the auction held its weekly dealer consignment sale in Lake Oswego until 1995, when it moved to a state-of-the-art facility in Wood Village, near Portland’s International Airport.

The auction is a member of ServNet, a premier group of independent auto auctions from across the United States. The auction also participates in AuctionPipeline, where customers may view detailed condition reports, market report information and participate in online sales.

Brasher Begins Term as ServNet President

December 10th, 2009

RENO, Nev. — When it comes to the auction business, Jeff Brasher has seen it all. He opened Brasher’s Reno Auto Auction eight years ago in Nevada, but his remarketing experience goes far beyond that and includes everything from paint and body shop work to finance and collections.Jeff Brasher

And after 19 years of working full time in the industry, Brasher begins his role as president of ServNet — a group he has worked with for many years — this month.

To shed some light on his goals for his presidency and a bit more of his background in the industry, Brasher, who is the owner and general manager of his facility in Reno, recently talked with Auto Remarketing.

Growing up in Salt Lake City, Brasher began helping out during the early days of summer at his family’s auction — Brasher’s Salt Lake Auto Auction — at the age of 10. He spent his teenage years working in the auction’s detail shops, and by 15 he was doing paint and body work.

After a two-year mission for his church, Brasher did finance and collections work for the auction for five years, beginning at age 21. Then in 2001, he opened the facility in Reno, Nev.ServNet Auction

And in his new role, Brasher will lead the ServNet organization with which he shares a long history.

“I’ve been involved with the group for so long, I’m just excited to continue working with the guys,” he told Auto Remarketing, later adding, “I started attending ServNet meetings in my late teens, just rubbing shoulders and meeting people. It’s always been like a 20 Group atmosphere where we bounce ideas off each other … and that’s been a good resource for me.”

He added: “It’s a great best practices format; it’s a great networking format for clients.” Read the rest of this entry »

The Race

Ironman St. George – May 1st, 2010

The Distance

Swim 2.4 miles, Bike 112 miles, Run 26.2 miles

The Contenders

Mark Melton

  • Height: 5′9″Mark Melton
  • Weight: 174 lbs
  • Work: Brasher’s Northwest
  • Nickname: The Bullett – Need I say more?
  • Race Resume: 2 half-Ironman’s, several century (100-mile) rides, 2 STP (Seattle to Portland – 202 miles) rides, 3 200ish-mile relay races, 1 half marathon
  • Quotable: “My biggest challenge will be trying not to drown during the swim. I swim like a rock and therefore it will be a challenge to stay off the bottom of the lake. I also have a hard time trying to conserve energy during the bike and will need to learn to pace myself so I have enough energy left to complete the marathon run.”

Ben Brasher

  • Height: 6′1″Ben Brasher
  • Weight: 191 lbs
  • Work: Brasher’s Auto Auctions
  • Nickname: benny – Because I couldn’t think of anything else.
  • Race Resume: 2 half-Ironman’s, 1 marathon, 1 half-marathon, 1 200ish-mile relay race, 1 off-road tri, and 2 “fun” tri’s
  • Quotable: “In the few triathlons I have under my belt, I’ve done relatively well on the swim. But the time you spend in the water pales in comparison to the time you spend on the run and in the saddle. The bike especially is my weakest event and the one I least enjoy. I’ve heard this course has a tough bike route. My big hurdle will be to put more of a focus on my bike training. Bigger still will be finding a balance with work, training, and family time.”

Matt Brasher

  • Height: 6′5″Matt Brasher
  • Weight: 200 lbs
  • Work: Brasher’s Idaho
  • Nickname: Hammer – Because that’s what the crowd chanted when I won an arm-wrestling competition in college…the name stuck.
  • Race Resume: 1 sprint-distance tri, and 5 “fun” tri’s, also 2009 Smoker Champion
  • Quotable: “The biggest hurdle I face in preparing for this event is overcoming the foot/ankle surgery I just had. I need to get back in to shape after 3 months of doing nothing. I’m worried about trying to do too much too soon. The last triathlon I attempted was a tough off-road course that I didn’t finish in Lake Tahoe. I feel a need to prove to myself that I can do this.”

Fall Harvest Sale Feeds Dealers, Sells Cars, Raises Money for Boy Scouts at Brasher’s Cascade

November 20th, 2009

There was plenty to buy and sell at Brasher’s Cascade Auto Auction’s Fall Harvest Sale on November 5, when dealers assembled in the auction arena for an 1,100 vehicle sale that featured Honda and Acura Financial Services, Wachovia Financial, Remarketing Services and the Pacific Northwest’s leading new and used car dealers.
Brasher's Cascade Corn Roast & Chili Feed 2009
“We marked the Fall Harvest season with a great day of buying and selling at Brasher’s Cascade Auto Auction,” said auction sales manager Rob Wassom. “Hot chili and cornbread seemed to take the chill right out of the air, and gave everyone the extra energy to stay in the lanes until the very end of the sale!”

Also attending the Fall Harvest Sale were a number of Eagle Scouts representing the Cascade Pacific Council of the Boy Scouts of America. They were on hand to create awareness for the Boy Scouts and to participate in a fund-raising auction at the end of the day. Once the last car had cleared the lane, dealers remained to offer bids on a number of items collected by both Brasher’s and the local council office, including electronic toys and gadgets, sports packages, and signed sports memorabilia. By day’s end, over $4,500 in revenue had been generated for the Boy Scouts.

“We take our responsibility as a member of our community seriously, and it was gratifying to see how much support the Boys Scouts received from our customers at the Fall Harvest Sale,” said Wassom. “It was great to pull together to raise funds for the Boy Scouts, who do so much to encourage our youth, to help them build character and develop the leadership skills that will serve them as the community leaders of the future.”

Established in 1993, Brasher’s Cascade Auto Auction holds a consignment sale every Thursday at 9AM, and a public sales on scheduled Thursdays. The auction is a member of ServNet, a premier group of independent auto auctions from across the country. The auction also participates in AuctionPipeline, where customers view detailed condition reports, market report information, and attend online sales.
